HISTORY OF SPORT ÉCHANGE OUTAOUAIS

The company was founded in 1991 by Malcolm Corcoran. Éric Corcoran, Malcolm’s son, quickly joined the team as an employee that same year and became co-owner of the store in 1995. Since January 2008, Eric has been President and CEO of Sport Échange Outaouais.

Sport Échange Outaouais has grown rapidly to become a vast store-warehouse of new and used sporting goods of over 15,000 square feet, including a repair shop and a multisport rental center. The company also operates two other divisions, specialized in online sales and wholesale sporting goods.

Sport Échange Outaouais is currently the largest store of new and used sporting goods in eastern Canada and has one of the largest workshops in Quebec; we repair and develop almost all sporting goods: skis, snowboards, skates, bicycles, etc.

We offer sales, exchanges, purchases, rentals, tune-ups and repairs of sporting goods.

Our multi-sport rental center is the largest of its kind in Quebec. We offer rentals for a wide range of sporting goods, which can be rented by the day, the week or the season.

The 2005 EXCELOR Award in the Distribution and Commerce category at the Business Gala of the Gatineau Chamber of Commerce on November 17, 2005.

The Bronze Award in the Small Business category at the National Bank’s Small Business Recognition Program competition held on October 29, 2004 at the Sheraton Hotel in Montreal.

The Gold Award from the National Bank of the Nation’s Capital SMEs Program on August 30, 2004.

The Prix d’Excellence of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Outaouais in the Small Business category in April 1995.

The winner of the Become a Entrepreneur-re contest in the Nation’s Capital region in April 1991.

In addition, Malcolm Corcoran, one of the store’s owners, was chosen Personality of the Month of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Outaouais in September 1998.

President

Éric Corcoran is a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from the Université du Québec in Gatineau, Quebec. He is co-owner, president and CEO of the company.

He has also developed two divisions of Sport Échange Outaouais, namely Sport-Exchange, a division specializing in the online sale of sporting goods, and SEO Distribution, operating in the wholesale of sporting good lots.

Malcolm Corcoran

Vice president

Malcolm Corcoran taught physical education for 20 years before founding Sport Échange Outaouais. He has worked as an outdoor guide on cycling, hiking, canoeing, cross-country skiing and downhill skiing in Canada, the United States and Europe.

He has written several books on cross-country skiing that are published in Canada, the United States, Europe and Russia, in French, English and Russian.

In addition, he has written numerous magazine and newspaper articles on various sports and outdoor activities. He has collaborated on a 10-minute, 2-minute radio-televised television series broadcast on CBC television on cross-country ski waxing.

He was one of the pioneers of volleyball in the Outaouais and beach volleyball in Quebec and Eastern Canada. He founded the Sun Open, a beach volleyball competition held annually at Lake Clay in the Outaouais since 1975.

He holds several diplomas and university studies: two years of study at the Faculty of Law of Laval University, Quebec, a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from Laval University, Quebec, a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Université de Moncton , New Brunswick, and a Masters in Sports Administration from the University of Ottawa, Ontario.

He was involved in several community organizations including the Rotary Club of Hull, the Recreation, Sports and Community Life Committee of the City of Gatineau and the Macintosh Club of Outaouais.

As a ski author, he is a journalist with the North American Snowsports Journalist Association (NASJA) and the US Eastern Ski Writers Association (ESWA).
